We are thrilled to announce that the #GiveBloodToHonorMatt campaign on May 8 was a huge success!

Thanks to the generosity of so many blood donors in the Philadelphia region and beyond, more than 400 units of blood were collected in Captain Matthew LeTourneau’s name. These blood products have the potential to save the lives of more than 1,200 people in the days and weeks ahead—a wonderful and fitting tribute to Matt LeTourneau.

Many, many people contributed to the success of the day. From blood drive staff and volunteers, to the coordinators of the eight blood drives in Pennsylvania and New Jersey that were specifically dedicated to Matt, to the blood donors who heeded the call in other parts of the country and made a point of donating and posting pictures on social media under the hashtag #GiveBloodToHonorMatt, everyone played an essential role in helping to carry on Matt’s legacy of saving lives.

We are sincerely thankful to everyone who supported this campaign. In honoring Matthew LeTourneau, all of you have followed his example and made a difference in the life of another person!

Thank you for an INCREDIBLE 2017!

Thank you for your support of the Carol H. Axelrod Memorial Blood Drive over the past year! Thanks to you, 2017 has been a year of milestones.

* In February we joined forces with a new partner, The Shipley School, to hold our first winter blood drive—bringing the number of our drives to four per year and ensuring that we could help patients in every season!

* We reached our highest collection totals yet for our drives in May (173), July (124), and October (282)

* In October, we celebrated the 10th Annual Carol H. Axelrod Memorial Blood Drive at Lankenau Medical Center

* And thanks to the generosity of our donors, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters, we reached the milestone of collecting enough cumulative units since our first blood drive in 2008 to have helped as many as 10,000 patients receive lifesaving blood transfusions and spend more time with their families!

We are so grateful to everyone who has contributed to this effort. THANK YOU for your continued support. We look forward to seeing you at our drives in 2018!

** We also were privileged to help raise support and awareness for six very deserving organizations through our Community CHAllenge program. The program’s beneficiaries in 2017 were Radnor Fire Company, Radnor Memorial Library, the VNA Foundation of Greater North Penn, Wissahickon Valley Public Library, Lankenau Medical Center’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and Peter’s Place. **

Our Mission...

The Carol H. Axelrod Memorial Blood Drive was created as a way of “giving back” to the blood-donor community that made it possible for Carol to receive all of the blood and platelet transfusion she needed during her treatment for cancer. Our mission is to enable other patients and their families to spend more time together by doing our part to ensure that blood products are always available for those who need them. Our goal is to help the blood donors at our drives have an enjoyable and positive donation experience.

If you would like to be added to our mailing list to receive information about upcoming dates and locations for the Carol H. Axelrod Memorial Blood Drive, simply send an email to info@chablooddrive.org.
