Thank you for an INCREDIBLE 2017!

Thank you for your support of the Carol H. Axelrod Memorial Blood Drive over the past year! Thanks to you, 2017 has been a year of milestones.

* In February we joined forces with a new partner, The Shipley School, to hold our first winter blood drive—bringing the number of our drives to four per year and ensuring that we could help patients in every season!

* We reached our highest collection totals yet for our drives in May (173), July (124), and October (282)

* In October, we celebrated the 10th Annual Carol H. Axelrod Memorial Blood Drive at Lankenau Medical Center

* And thanks to the generosity of our donors, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters, we reached the milestone of collecting enough cumulative units since our first blood drive in 2008 to have helped as many as 10,000 patients receive lifesaving blood transfusions and spend more time with their families!

We are so grateful to everyone who has contributed to this effort. THANK YOU for your continued support. We look forward to seeing you at our drives in 2018!

** We also were privileged to help raise support and awareness for six very deserving organizations through our Community CHAllenge program. The program’s beneficiaries in 2017 were Radnor Fire Company, Radnor Memorial Library, the VNA Foundation of Greater North Penn, Wissahickon Valley Public Library, Lankenau Medical Center’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and Peter’s Place. **

Early registration is now available for our first blood drive of 2018, which will take place on March 2 at The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, PA.

Eligibility information for our blood drive on March 2:  Whole blood donors must wait 56 days between blood donations, and power red (double red cell) donors must wait 112 days between donations. Therefore, whole blood donors can donate through January 5, 2018, and still be eligible to donate again on March 2. This means that whole blood donors who donated at our October blood drive at Lankenau Medical Center CAN make another donation between now and January 5 and still be eligible for our drive in March.

A power red donor who wishes to donate on March 2 must have made his or her last power red donation no later than November 10, 2017.  Because of the 112-day waiting period, power red donors who participated in our Lankenau drive in October will not become eligible to donate again until the end of January. As a result, a power red donor who wishes to be eligible to donate at our March drive will have to wait until that drive before making another donation.

If you have questions about your eligibility to donate blood, please click here or call 866-236-3276 to speak to a representative at the American Red Cross.

The Carol H. Axelrod Memorial Blood Drive was created as a way of “giving back” to the blood-donor community that made it possible for Carol to receive all of the blood and platelet transfusion she needed during her treatment for cancer. Our mission is to help other patients and their families spend more time together by doing our part to ensure that blood products are always available for those who need them. Our goal is to help the blood donors at our drives have an enjoyable and positive donation experience.
